Chicago attorney Phillip Brigham leads Loyola's mock trial team

Attorney Phillip Brigham, founder of the Law Office of Phillip Brigham, LLC, was recently tapped to be the head coach of the Thurgood Marshall mock trial team at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

"When I was in law school, I competed on this team, and it is a privilege to be back and helping the next generation of lawyers learn and hone their skills," said Brigham, who has been an assistant coach for three years.

The four-student mock trial team meets twice a week, and Brigham, who was on the team when he was in law school at Loyola, meets team members outside of class as well. Once the National Black Law Students Association distributes the problem the team will be facing, they get together and Brigham coaches them.

"I help them prepare their closing openings and give advice on a good way to go about the case," concluded Brigham. "It can be a very stressful position, but also very fun, and I wanted to make sure these students have the same opportunities as I did."

Loyola's Thurgood Marshall mock trial team will be participating in a competition this January in St. Louis. If they win, the team will move forward to the national competition in New York in early March 2018.
