Salvation Army partners with local businesses for 'Fill the Shell' Christmas Toy Drive

The Salvation Army of McHenry County, one of the largest social service providers, is partnering with Zippy Shell, Star 105.5 radio and Woodstock Harley Davidson for the "Fill the Shell" Toy Drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

Individuals are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to help fill a Zippy Shell storage unit located at Woodstock Harley Davidson in support of The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. This program provides new toys to families in need that have preregistered through The Salvation Army of McHenry County.

Captain Carol Lewis, commanding officer of The Salvation Army of McHenry County, states, "We will serve more than 400 families this year, representing over 1,000 children, in providing both toys and fresh food boxes at Christmas. We are truly grateful for community partners like Zippy Shell, Star 105.5 Radio and Woodstock Harley Davidson as well as many others who support our Angel Tree Program."

Unwrapped, new toys for all ages of children can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Woodstock Harley Davidson, 2235 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock.

Star 105.5 Radio will be doing a live remote from 10 a.m. to noon to kick off the event. Zippy Shell will provide the storage unit for the new toys to be distributed through Christmas Toyland at The Salvation Army of McHenry County, 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake starting Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Donors and community partners are invited to attend Breakfast with the Captain at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, to see Christmas Toyland before distribution begins and to hear about the Emergency Disaster Services provided locally and globally. For more information, visit www.salarmycl.org.

In 2016, The Salvation Army provided more than 13,000 gifts to 1,800 local children through the Christmas Toyland Shop and Angel Tree program. Support came from an all-volunteer bellringing program that raised over $200,000 in the red kettles last year due to the generosity of time from volunteers and donations from the community. Volunteers are needed again this year; call (815) 455-2769 for more information or register online at www.registertoring.com.
