National Indian Heritage Month Proclamation from the Mayor of Park Ridge, Marty Maloney

The Mayor of Park Ridge, Marty Maloney, signed a proclamation declaring the Month of November 2018, as National American Indian Heritage Month at the Park Ridge City Council meeting on November 7, 2018. The Proclamation was presented to the Twenty-first Star Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. American Indian Committee Chairman, Sharon Bollinger, was present to receive it.

What started over 100 years ago as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the United States has resulted in an entire month being designated for that purpose. In 1990 President George H.W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 National American Heritage Month and similar proclamations have been issued each year since 1994.

The Proclamation for November 2018 recognizes the influence of American Indians and indigenous peoples on the history and culture of the United States as well as recognizing their contributions that have enhanced the freedom, prosperity and greatness of America today. Finally, the proclamation urges citizens of Park Ridge to observe November with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
