Dec. 1-2: CLC presents Winter Dance Concert

The College of Lake County Prairie Spirits Dance Troupe Winter Dance Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake.

Featuring an eclectic range of dance styles and music accompanied by top-notch production values, this annual showcase of contemporary dance features original works choreographed by CLC dance faculty and guest artists and performed by CLC's talented dance company.

The choreographers include Valerie Alpert, artistic director and chair of the CLC dance department; Anna Erdman, a recent CLC graduate; Rachel Bruce Johnson of Tulsa, Okla., founder and executive director of Bell House Arts, Inc.; Matthew Kinney, a former CLC student and dancer from Chicago; Lamaiya Lancaster, CLC dance instructor; Margaret Morris, a Chicago choreographer; and Jeannine Potter, dance instructor at CLC and Dominican University.

"Art provides insight into the world in which we live. I have been lucky enough to have observed the impact of the arts on people's lives as a dancer, choreographer and educator throughout my life," said Alpert. "Now, more than ever, I understand why I dance and how dance can heal the soul and bring people together. I am proud of our community of dancers, not only for the dedication they have to their art form and the drive to make themselves better human beings, but for the courage it takes to create, perform and reflect. They foster creativity, build stronger communities and make the world a more connected place."

In addition to 22 members of CLC's Prairie Spirits Dance Troupe, professional dancers from VADCO (the Valerie Alpert Dance Company) will be featured.
