Elgin Chamber hosts annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon

Thanksgiving is an ideal occasion to join together to give thanks. One of the longstanding traditions in the community is the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Elgin Community College, Building E, 1700 Spartan Drive.

It will begin with networking and live music from 11:30 a.m. to noon followed by a buffet luncheon. Cost is $25 per person.

Table centerpieces will be provided by Elgin Area School District U-46 art students. The invocation will be delivered by Mike Murschel of Caring Farewells Funeral Designers.

The day's program will be emceed by Elgin Area Chamber board chair Jaci Kator of AT&T and president Carol Gieske. The luncheon will also feature a brief video about the value of Elgin's nonprofit community and its volunteers

Six volunteers, who were nominated by local nonprofit agencies, will be recognized for their achievements by the group's Enhancing Elgin committee.

They are: Tom Brockner, nominated by Kiwanis Club of Elgin; Terry Dunning, nominated by Elgin Noon Rotary Club; Karen Fox, nominated by Gail Borden Public Library; Sylvia Hiple, nominated by Community Crisis Center; K. Eric Larson, nominated by Downtown Neighborhood Association; and Karen Schock, nominated by Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

Local service clubs and nonprofit organizations also will be recognized at this non-denominational luncheon as they provide critical programs and services to the community.

The luncheon is sponsored by Northwestern Medicine.
