Enders-Salk Turkey Trot makes a difference

Enders-Salk Elementary School's 23rd annual Turkey Trot and Food Drive in support of National Make a Difference Day brought in a record 1,860 items.

During the food drive, which ran from Oct. 25 through Nov. 7, students and staff were asked to bring a canned good, boxed item or paper product donation to donate to the District 54 food pantry and the Woodfield Area Children's Organization (WACO). WACO distributes baskets to needy families for Thanksgiving and the holiday season. The school's goal was to break last year's record of 1,704 items.

The Turkey Trot was held on Nov. 7 in conjunction with the food drive. Students were eligible for prizes based on who came closest to their estimated run time.

"This is our fun way of making a difference in our community," said Enders-Salk P.E. teacher Cyndee Jackowski, who organizes the annual event.
