It wasn't that noticeable until the construction traffic starting impacting shoppers' Target runs.

OrthoIllinois broke ground at the end of September on a new 34,000-square-foot, multi-specialty clinic along the Randall Road corridor.

The center is going up at 650 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, just to the north of Super Target. It will be on the west side of Randall, to the east of the Colonial Café restaurant.

It also sits along Sherman Drive, which is one of the main ways to get to the shopping center.

As part of the new OrthoIllinois construction, crews had to shut down a portion of that main frontage road for a short time.

That's when people started looking to the side and noticing a major construction project was happening in the strip center. And that's when you started emailing, wondering what was going up there.

The road is open again, but the curiosity is high as crews are out every day working on the new center.

As of now, crews have poured the footings and are getting ready to start actual construction, said Lynne Pratt, director of marketing for OrthoIllinois.

The orthopedic center will take about a year to complete, with the new facility expected to open in September 2018, Pratt said.

When it is finished, the clinic will be an all-in-one center, with several specialties in house. For example, Pratt said, in addition to orthopedic surgeons on-site, there will be specialists in joint replacement, spines, upper extremity hand surgery and more.

There will be room for 12 different physicians and their appointments in the new building, she said.

"One of our advantages is it allows us to offer more under one roof and to bring in more providers to meet the community's needs," she said.

There also will be an MRI machine, an infusion lab, a rehab area, and a cast room on-site, she said.

In addition to being a place where doctors can see patients with appointments, all of those amenities will make it a one-stop center should an emergency arise, she said. There will be a walk-in center, similar to an urgent care, where patients can go for unexpected problems.

For example, if you fall and hurt your arm on the ice, you can walk into the clinic and get whatever is needed for treatment -- including X-rays, an MRI, a visit with specialists, a cast and more. You will not need to be referred elsewhere.

"People who are weekend warriors, or who get hurt playing sports, or just slip on the ice can actually just walk right in for treatment," Pratt said. "We can handle it all under one roof."

Locally, OrthoIllinois has offices in Huntley and Crystal Lake. However, they are not as large and do not have the walk-in center.

The new center will be similar to one in Rockford on Riverside Drive, Pratt said.

Pratt said OrthoIllinois thought the location along Randall Road would be ideal.

"By moving to Randall Road, we were able to expand our reach a little more into other areas like West Dundee and Lake in the Hills and that area," she said. "We can expand our market.

"We're also just very excited about expanding the services and the providers," she said.
