Hispanic Parent Leadership Academy offered

The Glenbard Parent Series will present "In the Driver's Seat: A Hispanic Parent Leadership Academy" in Spanish.

The event will feature Lourdes Ferrer at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in the library/media center at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St., Lombard. Baby-sitting will be provided.

Parental involvement is the leading indicator of student academic achievement. Empowering parents so they can play a significant role in their children's education is key in efforts to increase Hispanic students' academic achievement.

Ferrer, who specializes in Hispanic academic achievement and parental involvement, will explain the competencies that parents demonstrate when they "sit in the driver's seat" of their children's education. Parents will learn how to increase students' college and career readiness so students can graduate college with the least amount of debt. Participants will better understand standardized test scores, the strategies to create a home environment that is conducive to their children's academic success, and how to best support their children.
