Learn about organic farming at Green Drinks meeting Nov. 1

Terrence Layhew of Alden Hills Organic Farms, who has managed Alden Hills Organic Farms with his wife, Emily, since 2015, will speak at the next McHenry County Green Drinks from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, 110 N. Main St., Crystal Lake.

On the first Wednesday of each month, environmentally minded people gather to network and talk about "greening" the future.

The couple do not have a farming background as Emily has a degree in social work and Terrence a degree in business. Alden Hills is owned by the latter's father and is a family run farm. It is a certified organic farm that raises grass-fed beef, chicken, turkeys and eggs. They also grow popcorn, garlic and botanical herbs. Alden Hills farms more than 400 acres in southern Wisconsin and focuses on providing the state-line area with local meats.

The owners of Alden Hills Farm near Walworth, Wisconsin are a supplier for Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen. Their organic farm focuses on the soil up to provide the healthiest and highest quality pasture raised products.

Additional parking is available at the train station. To be added to the Green Drinks email list, send a note to GreenDrinksMC@gmail.com or "like" www.facebook.com/GreenDrinksMcHenryCounty.
