Area police announce Prescription Drug Turn-In Days

Police departments from Palatine and Schaumburg have announced prescription drug turn-in days.

In Palatine, residents can turn in any expired or unused prescription drugs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Palatine Police Headquarters, 595 N. Hicks Road. All medications turned in will be safely disposed of.

The RxBox in the lobby of the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 Schaumburg Road, will be available beginning Friday, Nov. 17. Residents can use the box to drop off any expired or unused prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Drop-offs should be in a zip locked plastic bag. Asthma medication should be in a separate bag. Needles, sharps, and thermometers are not accepted through the RxBox.

Needles, syringes, and sharps are accepted in a RED approved syringe disposal box at the Village of Schaumburg Nursing Building, 521 E. Schaumburg Road, from 4-5 p.m. the second Monday of every month.

Only two containers are accepted per drop-off. Individuals dropping off containers must be a resident of the village of Schaumburg and must provide proof of residency. Individuals will also be required to sign a disposal log sheet.
