Holiday Fun Continues at Congregation Or Shalom

Adult first year Hebrew classes are now available with flexible dates and times at Congregation Or Shalom. For those with no Hebrew experience or those who have forgotten the alef-bet, classes will begin in November. Contact Marcia Cohen for specific class information or to register. The fee is $150 for each eight-week session.

On Saturday, November 4, a family STEAM program will be held at the temple from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Plan to attend for hands-on activities using science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics - with a Jewish theme connected to each activity. Congregation Or Shalom will honor our veterans on Friday, November 10, at the Shabbat evening service. A welcome reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by Shabbat worship. All veterans in the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Children ages two through seven, along with their parents, are invited to Or Shalom for a Hanukkah Pajama Havdallah program on Saturday, December 2, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Kids are encouraged to wear their PJs. Hanukkah crafts, snacks and activities will be included and the evening with conclude with Havdallah. This program is free of change and co-sponsored by the PJ Library.

The Or Shalom Book club will meet again on Thursday, December 7, at 7 p.m. in the Or Shalom Library to discuss Windy City Blues, a novel written by Renée Rosen. A discussion will e facilitated by Rachel Kamin.

Or Shalom's annual Hanukkah Shabbat will be held on Friday, December 15. The evening will begin with a BYI dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by worship at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to bring the family chanukiyah if one is available. December anniversaries and birthdays also will be celebrated.

For those who want to further explore beneath the surface of Jewish practices and philosophy, Rabbi Ari Margolis will hold a class to explore the "why" behind the practice of Judaism. Classes will be held on Thursday, November 2, 16 and 30, and on December 14, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. The fee is $36 for the four classes.
