General Mukoyama Kicks Off Windsor Park Observance of Veterans Day

In observance of Veterans Day, Windsor Park retirement community and the Windsor Park Center for Lifelong Learning are hosting Major General James H. Mukoyama, Jr., (U.S. Army, retired), who will share how 30-plus years of military service has motivated him to devote a ministry and career to helping military veterans. The free lecture is on Thursday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Windsor Park, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, is located at 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream.

Mukoyama is a Christian believer whose personal testimony is well known in the armed forces as well as throughout the greater Chicago region. He is CEO of Military Outreach USA, which seeks to enlist the help of churches and other organizations in providing practical and moral support to military personnel not available through government sources. He is profoundly concerned with what he terms "moral injury," which is sustained by so many veterans.

During his initial five years on active duty, he served as a platoon leader in the demilitarized zone in the Republic of Korea and then commanded an infantry company in the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. When he became a general officer, he was the youngest in the Army. He is also the first Asian-American in the history of the United States to command an Army division.
