Mundelein Park District dancers find success at Chicago competition

Company Dancers of the Mundelein Park District Dance Program scored big at the recent Dupree Dance Convention and Competition in Chicago. Fifteen performances in a wide variety of dance categories received recognition and five company members earned scholarships.

Award-winning performances included:

• Judges Connection Award, Platinum, Second Overall High Score for the Junior Duet Division Lyrical by Annalie Salski and Addison Salski

• Gold for Junior Duet Division Lyrical by Samantha Petersen and Kendal Teper

• Platinum, Fourth Overall High Score for the Junior Trio Division Jazz by Sarah Page, Annalie Salski and Sophie Volk

• Gold for the Junior Duo Division Contemporary by Stephanie Aquino and Kayla Baltazar

• Platinum, Third Overall High Score for Teen Trio Division Lyrical by Beth Aquino, Lexi Kasamis and Dayna Teemer

• Platinum, Fifth Overall High Score for Teen Solo Division Tap by Derek Lee

• Gold for Teen Solo Division Jazz by Emily Atkinson

• Platinum for Teen Solo Musical Theatre by Addison Salski

• Platinum for Teen Solo Division Tap by Ella Kasamis

• Platinum for Teen Solo Division Lyrical by Beth Aquino

• Judges Award for Great Duet Performance, Gold for Teen Duo Division Musical Theatre by Maddy Aquino and Mary McMurray

• Platinum for Teen Solo Division Tap by Dayna Teemer

• Judges Technique Award, Diamond, First Overall High Score for Senior Solo Division Ballet by Sabrina Lee

• Platinum for Junior Group Division Musical Theatre by Maddy Aquino, Kayla Baltazar, Ella Kasamis, Samantha Petersen and Sophie Volk

• Platinum, Third Overall High Score for Senior Solo Division Musical Theatre by Lexi Kasamis

In addition to the award-winning performances, Addison Salski, Stephanie Aquino, Sarah Page and Dayna Teemer won Dupree Dance Scholarships. Derek Lee won a scholarship for Rhythmic Souls Tap Company Summer Tap Intensive in Dallas, Texas.

"I couldn't be prouder of our dancers. It's so amazing to watch them grow and improve with each year that passes," said Heather Burnes, Mundelein Dance Program coordinator. "I love that I can help to offer the Mundelein community a dance program that allows them to experience dance studio level instruction and experiences without the stress and cost."

"The Mundelein Dance Company had an amazing start to their competition season," said Julie Salski, mother of a performer. "They brought such energy to the stage. I can't wait to see what these performers look like at the spring recital."

Dupree Dance conducts high-caliber dance conventions and competitions in cities throughout the United States. More than 300 dance routines were performed in last weekend's competition. For details, visit dupreedance.com.
