Breakfast Series returns to Shah Center

The Workforce Community and Business Programs at the Shah Center has reintroduced the successful breakfast series, "Start@Shah."

The next breakfast session takes place from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and features two hours of insightful and interactive training, networking opportunities and a hearty breakfast.

The featured topic for October's session, "Building a Civilized Workplace," is based on a book covering the ongoing problem of difficult employees and the cost to morale, productivity and an organization's culture. Learning and Development consultant Ruth Soskin will facilitate this interactive breakfast session and will share Stanford University professor and author Robert Stratton's experience in researching and documenting a few well-known organizations who have found a way to mete out and eliminate the problem employees and help you come up with some solutions to your workplace's similar issues.

On Dec. 1, Christine Johnson, president of Cued Forward, LLC and current president of Stateline SHRM, will present "HR 101: What Managers Need to Know." This interactive Start@Shah breakfast session will provide managers the tools to understand HR-related policies, procedures and laws from the sides of a leader in an organization as opposed to an employee. This program, scheduled on Dec. 1, will allow managers the opportunity to practice dealing with real workplace scenarios, giving them hands-on experience with challenging employee situations.

This breakfast series takes place at the McHenry County College Shah Center, corner of Shamrock Lane and Route 31. Cost for each breakfast event is $35. Use course code NTL S90 001 to register for Oct. 27 and NTL S90 002 to register for Dec. 1.

The Workforce, Community and Business Programs courses are also available for on-site training at a company's facility and customizable for their needs.
