Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Named Among Greenest Hospitals in America

Recognized for embracing initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint in our communities, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has been named one of the 60 greenest hospitals in America by Becker's Hospital Review.

"It's a privilege to be named one of the greenest hospital in the nation," says Dominica Tallarico, president, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. "As a part of a health system that's dedicated to the health and well-being of the communities it proudly serves, our hospital recognizes the importance our environmental responsibility. This achievement is a direct result of our health care team's commitment to making our community a healthy place to live."

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital was the first LEED Gold certified hospital building in Midwest. The hospital continues their commitment to sustainability through waste diversion and recycling, and donation of supplies and equipment.

Demonstrating the depth and breadth of sustainable practices throughout the health system, six Advocate hospitals were named to the list. In addition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn; Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove; Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington; Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago; and Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago were awarded the honor.

Advocate Health Care also received the Practice Greenhealth System for Change Award in 2017, the ninth consecutive year the system has been recognized for achieving environmental solutions in the health care sector and creating better, safer, greener workplaces and communities.

To compile the list, the Becker's Hospital Review editorial team considered nominations and conducted editorial research, looking at awards won from Practice Greenhealth, the U.S. Green Building Council, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Environmental Protection Agency.
