Algonquin Lions Club donate $4,600 to local food pantry

Upholding its pledge of "We Serve" the community, the Algonquin Lions Club donated $4,600 to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Food Pantry from proceeds raised from the eighth annual Algonquin Lions-Buffalo Wild Wings Charity Bean Bag Tournament.

The year's tournament raised $9,200 with the proceeds divided between the food pantry and the Lion Ted Spella Education Award which will be awarded to an Algonquin high school senior in the spring.

The Charity Bean Bag Tournament has raised $50,000 for the food pantry and the Education Award since its inception in 2010.

More than 110 area businesses supported the tournament with $5,800 in raffle prizes, sponsorships and tournament entries.

"The Algonquin Lions continue to support the food pantry because its volunteers do such noble work for our neighbors in need," explained Lion John Cygan, Bean Bag chairman.
