NORTHWEST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OCTOBER 22, 2017 CONCERT at Forest View Educational Center

Northwest Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Maurice Boyer, will present a concert October 22, 2017, at 3:30 pm in the theater at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights (between Golf and Algonquin Roads). Maestro Boyer's pre-concert commentary begins at 2:45. The concert is being held in partnership with the D214 Community Education Program.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 32 in G major is an Italian overture, consisting of three brief movements following one another without break. Mozart used the symphony as an overture for a Vienna performance of Francesco Bianchi's opera La Villanella Rapita. Mozart's Overture to La clemenza di Tito, known in English as The Clemency of Titus, is an opera seria in two acts composed to an Italian libretto by Caterino MazzolĂ , after Metastasio; it premiered in 1791 at the Estates Theatre in Prague.

Richard Strauss' Serenade in E-flat major was written for Wind instruments, composed in sonata form and modeled after the Gran partita in 1881

Felix Mendelssohn's Nocturno was composed for the Grand Duke of Bad Doberan (on the Baltic Sea), and exists in two versions by Mendelssohn and in many band arrangements others.

Gustav Holst's St. Paul's Suite for String Orchestra, Op. 29, No. 2 comprises four movements: Jig, Ostinato, Intermezzo and Finale - the last movement uses two English folk tunes in combination, "The Dargason" and "Greensleeves".

Ralph Vaughan Williams - English Folk Song Suite is one of Williams' most famous works for military band and consists of three movements: March (Seventeen Come Sunday), Intermezzo (My Bonny Boy) and March (based on Folk Songs from Somerset).

Individual concert ticket prices are $20 (adults), $15 (seniors), and $10 (students). Children under age 14 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Season tickets for the four-concert series are $60 (adults), $45 (seniors), and $30 (students), a series savings of 25%. Tickets will be available at the door on concert days and may be purchased by cash, check or credit card.
