Conant teachers take a plunge for cancer awareness

Students at James B. Conant High School had the opportunity to dunk their teachers during their lunch period Wednesday, Oct. 4. The event, held as part of the school's homecoming festivities, was a fundraiser for "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer."

"This is a great way to raise both funds and awareness," said Erin Garrity-Duffey, the art department chair for the school. "It's also a fun experience for the students to get to dunk their teachers."

Garrity-Duffey said breast cancer research was chosen because several students and faculty members have been affected by the disease in some way or another.

Senior Kevin Oskrep believes that using homecoming to raise awareness is a great idea.

"It's a good way to use the good vibes of homecoming for something useful and positive," he said.

Oskrep, who recently lost his mother following an eight-year battle with breast cancer, said it means a lot that the school chose that cause to support.

"I hope the money we raise can help drive awareness which can one day lead to a cure," he said.
