SRACLC volleyball advances to State tournament

Submitted by Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County

On Sept. 24, the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County's Special Olympics volleyball team competed in the District Volleyball tournament located at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.

SRACLC went into the tournament ready to win and came home with a first-place finish. In the first match, SRACLC beat the NISRA Nutty Netters with scores of 23-25, 25-9, and 25-13. In the second match, SRACLC beat the Little City Spike with scores of 14-25, 25-21, and 25-23, earning them a spot at state.

Out of the 13 players on the team, all but three were able to make it to the tournament. Because of their win, those 10 players will be traveling to the state tournament held on Oct. 28 and 29 in Rockford.

"I could not be more proud of our team and our coaches," said Kara Miller, head coach and recreation specialist at SRACLC. "We came a long way since the beginning of the season and have really turned this team around. They brought their all to district and it paid off. Even though we lost the first sets to both games, they didn't get discouraged and played harder. We are all very excited to be able to extend our volleyball season."
