McHenry Co. Health Dept. offers signup for paint recycling

McHenry County Department of Health will hold a single day paint collection, for preregistered participants, from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Oct. 21, in the north parking lot of the McHenry County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

Unused paint from McHenry County residents will be collected at no charge and recycled into new paint, driveway seal coating or plastic. Once emptied, the steel and plastic paint containers also will be recycled.

Latex paint, latex/water based stains, oil-based paint and oil-based stains from residential sources will be accepted at no charge.

The department cannot accept paint from businesses or commercial entities. All paint and stains must be in their original containers. No spray or aerosol paint products, varnish or water sealant products, solvents, chemicals, driveway sealer or roofing products will be accepted. No other types of recyclable materials or waste will be collected at this event.

All participants must be preregistered as the capacity of the collection containers is limited. Interested residents should call the Division of Environmental Health at (815) 334-4585 to preregister.

Participants must provide the number and size of the paint containers to be recycled.

Due to an overwhelming response to previous similar events, the McHenry County Department of Health may limit the number of containers to be recycled by individuals and designate approximate drop off times to minimize traffic congestion.

Visit the department's website www.mcdh.info to review the event flyer or call the Division of Environmental Health at (815) 334-4585.
