Artistry in Motion Dancers Selected to Perform with Professional Company

Des Plaines Park District's award-winning dance company, Artistry in Motion, recently had five of its dancers chosen to train with Inaside Chicago Dance. Inaside, a professional dance company now in its 15th season, is a not-for-profit jazz dance company that builds off the foundations of the art form, while leading the way for contemporary jazz dance in the present and future. New Artistic Director Robert McKee strives to make Inaside a supreme outlet of artistry, knowledge, and growth for each dancer and choreographer who comes through the company's presence.

Guilia Demma, Jordin Suwalski, and Callie Weinert were selected for the Pre-Professional Program, while Bianca Noonan and Ava Williams were chosen for the Intermediate Program. These dancers auditioned for Inaside's "Youth Training Program" in August and were picked from dozens of dancers from many surrounding suburbs. The pre-professional dancers will perform with the professional company at their fall concert on October 28 at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts in Skokie. In addition both groups of dancers will perform in Dance Chicago. After being selected, the Artistry dancers immediately began regular training and rehearsals with Inaside company members and choreographers, Sarah Ford Hardy and Kenna Sullivan, every Sunday afternoon. This training is in addition to their already busy schedule of classes with the Des Plaines School of Dance, private lessons and of course their regular school work.

"We are proud of all of our dancers but we are especially excited to have five of our dancers qualify to participate in this program," said Nancy Suwalski, Cultural Arts Supervisor for the Park District. "This is a wonderful opportunity for them to grow as dancers and performers," she added.

Artistry in Motion Dance Company has partnered with Inaside Chicago Dance on many occasions with dance intensives, master classes taught by Inaside company members and youth summits. The Youth Summit for the Arts is an opportunity for young artists to come together in a noncompetitive setting to showcase their talent, heart, and passion in all fine arts areas. The next youth summit that Youth Training Dancers will participate in will be Nov. 18, in Oswego, IL.

"Our company continues to excel every year, said Suwalski, "connecting our dancers to opportunities like this will continue to push our dancers to the next level," she concluded.

The Park District's School of Dance offers over 50 different dance classes, taught by professional dancers, including Pre-dance, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and more. The Des Plaines School of Dance will be accepting new students through the week of Oct. 23, 2017. For more information visit DPParks.org or call (847) 391-6924.
