Algonquin Garden Club to host holiday luncheon Nov. 18

The Algonquin Garden Club will host its holiday fundraising luncheon Saturday, Nov. 18, at Boulder Ridge Country Club, 400 Boulder Club Drive in Lake in the Hills. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. with the luncheon starting promptly at 11:45 a.m.

The deadline for purchasing tickets for $36 is Wednesday, Nov. 1. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Entree choices are: chicken Oscar, asparagus tips with hollandaise sauce, served with glazed carrots and roasted herb new potatoes; grilled pork chop topped with apple slices in demi-glace flambéed with brandy, served with glazed carrots and roasted herb new potatoes; or vegetarian penne pasta with grilled vegetables, a light vegetable pan sauce, topped with fresh grated Parmesan. All meals include cream of mushroom soup, fresh rolls, coffee or tea and dessert.

Garden club members are enthusiastically making and procuring a variety of beautiful and interesting items that will be available on the silent auction, raffle, and boutique tables. This year, the club also will have three live auction items: a Chicago Blackhawks package, a Lake Geneva getaway package and a private aircraft sightseeing /luncheon package.

Proceeds of this event fund the club's philanthropic endeavors, one of which is scholarships for local students interested in pursuing fields of study in horticulture and the environment.

In addition, the Algonquin Garden Club continues its civic commitment of service to the community by designing and maintaining five flower beds in prominent locations in the Village of Algonquin. The club also sponsors the Junior Garden Club at St. Margaret Mary Elementary School promoting an awareness of the importance of caring for our environment in a responsible fun way.
