Water Street Studios to open two new exhibits: 'Extravagant Nature' and 'Transparency'

The Dempsey Family Gallery at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St. in Batavia, will be displaying the work of two renowned regional artists Michael Noland and David Richards, in an exhibit titled, "Extravagant Nature."

Michael Noland's lushly complex paintings evoke the art of a number of indigenous cultures and reflect his interest in the natural world of insects, animals, plants and flowers.

David Richards' intricate, colorfully painted and collaged abstract relief wall sculptures combine organic, mechanical and geometric forms. He is interested in using the worldview of a child as a symbol for the helplessness we often feel as adults in the face of historical, political, and biological forces beyond our control.

"Extravagant Nature" will open on Friday, Oct. 13. During the opening night reception from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be live music, free food by Gaetano's in Batavia and a cash bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine from Bright Angel wines. Special thanks to K. Hollis Jewelers for their event sponsorship.

The exhibit will continue until Nov. 5.

Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery, resident glass artist Victoria Belz will be displaying a number of her handcrafted artisan glass works for her show titled, "Transparency," at the Kane County Chronicle gallery, located on the second floor. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 13.

The show will be on view during regular gallery hours: 1 to 9 p.m. Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
