Give your gourd a ghoulish makeover at Family Pumpkin Carving

Carve some time into your fall schedule for a morning of jack-o-lanterns and family fun with Schaumburg Park District.

Family Pumpkin Carving takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 21, at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane. The event, for ages 1 to 14, includes a full-sized pumpkin for each family.

"Pumpkin carving really gets everyone into the Halloween spirit," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center manager and general program supervisor. "We supply the pumpkin, designs and the carving tools."

In addition to scary designs, flowers and princesses, youngsters also may choose to carve the traditional jack-o-lantern.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, with voting taking place online after the event. Juice and snacks will be provided. An adult must be present with children at all times.

Cost of the event is $15 per child for residents and $23 per child for non-residents. Registration deadline is Oct. 20.
