Celebrate Ethnic Diversity at Schaumburg Library's Culture Fest

All ages are welcome to celebrate Schaumburg Township's ethnic diversity by attending Culture Fest from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Schaumburg Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd. No fee or registration is required to participate. Culture Fest will include music, theater, stories, games, art and crafts.

This celebration of cultures will begin with a Mexican Dance Performance by Grupo Folklorico Quetzal from 1-2 p.m. in Workshop, on the library's first floor. Up next is Indonesian Shadow Puppetry by Mandal Arts from 1:30-2 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room. A Chinese Martial Arts Demonstration by Chicagoland Shaolin Kung Fu will take place from 2-3 p.m. in kidsZone. Next, it's African Storytelling by Fehinty African Theatre Ensemble from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Fiction area. After the storytelling, Mandala Arts will present an Indian Dance Performance from 3-4 p.m. in Workshop.

Anyone who likes to cook won't want to miss the Ramadan Food Demonstration by Yvonne Maffei from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room. Afterward, more cultural tales will be told as the Trickster Art Gallery presents Storytelling and Dance from 4-5 p.m. in kidsZone.

Other opportunities to experience various cultures will include purchasing food from the Bombay Wraps food truck from 1-4 p.m. on the library's east lawn. Hands-on activities taking place throughout the entire event will include Tasty Travels Sensory Stations in the Craft Room, Games from around the World in the Program Room, Multicultural Crafts in the Adult Classroom, Mosaics Across Cultures: Interactive Display in The Commons, and See Your Name in Assyrian by Assyrian American Civic Club of Chicago, also in The Commons.
