Rock on Palatine Singing Contest Nov. 12
Northwest suburban residents are invited to showcase their singing talents and compete in the 3rd annual Rock on Palatine Singing Contest. This family-friendly competition will be held on the Main Stage at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith Street in downtown Palatine, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2017.
The Rock on Palatine Singing Contest has grown each year since its inaugural year in 2015; the 2016 competition had 30 competitors and nearly 500 spectators cheering them on in the band room, and from the second floor viewing area for the Main Stage at Durty Nellie's.
Solo contestants ages 6 to adult will compete in different age categories, including junior, teen and adult divisions. A panel of judges will rate contestants on tone, pitch, timing, rhythm and stage presence. A 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner will be named in each age division, and prizes including cash, trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners.
"The level of talent continues to grow from our competitors each year; it's always an exciting event that provides a great entertainment option for the whole family, and admission is free for those would would like to cheer on the contestants," said Melanie Santostefano of Vicarious Productions, who co-founded the event with Jan Wood of JP Wood Martial Arts America.
The soloists will have a maximum of four minutes to perform, and can sing a cappella, with pre-recorded background music or with a live instrument such as a guitar or keyboard. Drums or pianos are not permitted accompaniments for the competition.
Participants are required to be residents of one of the following suburbs: Palatine, Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Mount Prospect Rolling Meadows, Streamwood, or Schaumburg.
The registration fee for contestants is $25, and can be completed online at the event website, www.rockonpalatine.com/registration/. Those who register will be notified if a preliminary round will be held in their age division by November 2.
