Chat with novelists, writers at Schaumburg's Indie Author Day

What's better than a new book? A new book signed by the author!

Come to Indie Author Day at the Schaumburg Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, to meet authors and peruse books for all ages.

Indie published books, as well as traditionally published books in a wide variety of genres, will be available for purchase and signing, and authors will happily talk with you about their works or the writing/publishing process.

Approximately 25 authors will have tables set up in The Commons on the first floor of the central library in Schaumburg. No fee or registration is required for attending this event.

Authors participating in Indie Author Day will be selling thrillers, mysteries, romance, sci-fi, inspirational, horror, crime and more, as well as nonfiction titles. There will be selections for adults, teens and children. But that's not all! There will also be drawings and giveaways.

"We are excited to host our second annual Indie Author Day and are looking forward to showcasing authors in the recently renovated first floor Commons area," said Fiction Librarian Allison Bies, coordinator of the event. "It is our privilege to support local indie authors in their writing, marketing and networking and share their talents with the community."

Indie Author Day participating authors will include: Sandra Ulbrich Almazan, T.D. Arkenberg, Jan Bottiglieri, Karla Brandenburg, Nicolette Chelios, Randall Allen Dunn, Gregory Kopp, Chris Lindberg, Howard Lipke, Margie Mack, Pamela S. Meyers, Susan Miura, Hugo Valentin Negron, Robert Pine, Georgann Prochaska, Red Anemone Books (Christine Todd & Jean-Michel Smith), Daniel Refvik, William A. Rich, Patrick Rizio, Nancy Sack, Scot Savage, Judith Soria, Trina Sotira and Chiara Talluto. Many of these authors have websites on which you can see their books and learn more about them prior to Indie Author Day.

If you come for Indie Author Day on Saturday, Oct. 14, you'll discover other fun opportunities within the library's walls. From 1-3 p.m., all ages are invited to decorate their own bookmarks and journals in Workshop, adjacent to The Commons.

And as part of the library's monthlong celebration of ethnic diversity, we'll feature Geometry in Culture for tweens ages 9-12 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Craft Room. Since many cultures use geometric patterns while celebrating holidays, there will be a variety of patterns tweens can use to create their own decorations.

But that's not all. You'll also have the opportunity to share some love by dropping off new, packaged socks for the homeless. The library is joining forces with Socks and Souls by collecting new socks throughout October. You'll find our "Socktober" collection box in the lobby.

What are you doing Oct. 14? Save the date and come to the library to meet authors, get creative and spread kindness.
