Woodland launches Strategic Planning Process

Woodland District 50 is planning for the future with the start of a new Strategic Planning Process this fall and members of the community will be asked to participate.

Focus groups and a two-day planning session this fall are among the processes to be facilitated by Dr. Robert Madonia of RJM Consulting Services Inc. in Orland Park.

Hired by the board of education as facilitator, Madonia brings a wealth of experience in curriculum, finance, leadership, and professional development. Madonia has facilitated many school strategic planning processes, including those at neighboring Grayslake High School District 127, Libertyville Elementary District 70 and Lincolnshire-Prairie View Elementary District 103.

"In developing the plan, we look forward to hearing from a broad cross-section of stakeholders from across our school community, including staff, parents, students, community and business leaders as well as taxpayers," Superintendent Dr. Joy A. Swoboda said.

"Excellent schools are important assets to our families, communities and local businesses. We welcome your input as we plan for the future of our students, a precious commodity."

"Strategic plans are designed to focus energy and provide a common sense of direction for those who support an organization," Woodland Board President Dr. Carla Little said. "As the plan comes together, the board of education looks forward to hearing the thoughts of the entire Woodland community."

During the previous five-year strategic plan, many initiatives were accomplished, including full-day kindergarten, creation of the Dual Language program, 1:1 technology initiatives, a revised long-range financial and facility plan, and a breakfast program for all students.

The board of education will be developing new mission and vision statements and focus areas of study. There will be focus groups conducted and an electronic survey for stakeholders will be distributed in mid-October.

The focus areas of study will be central to planning sessions held with community members and staff Nov. 27 and 28, after which an action plan will be developed by the administration.

A recommended plan is expected to come before the board of education for discussion and consideration in January, 2018.
