Traffic reporter Roz Varon shares her travels

It's no surprise that Roz Varon, ABC 7/Chicago's popular traffic reporter knows about roads.

That's been the station's Emmy Award-winning traffic/transportation anchor's expertise since she joined ABC 7 in 1989.

Varon also writes a blog, "Roz on the Road," where she shares construction updates, travel adventures and more personal updates as well. An extension of that blog now adds the title "author" to Varon's resume.

Her new book, "On the Road with Roz," will be celebrated at a book signing at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville. The event is free and open to the public. To join the book signing line, purchase the author's featured book at Anderson's Bookshop.

For the past eight years, Varon has been recording her travels in words and images. This book is designed to be a keepsake for those readers who enjoy vicarious adventures, and for those who seek ideas for their own trips across the U.S. and overseas.

Written with honesty, enthusiasm and a grateful sense of wonder, Varon shares with her audience little-known facts, humorous anecdotes and heartwarming insights into her personal life.

Readers are Varon's awe-struck travel companions at the inauguration of President Barack Obama, students of history while roaming the Jewish Deep South, and gleeful visitors to Walt Disney World - Varon's "happiest place on earth."

On other continents, Varon presents her travels through sacred places in Israel, joyous sites in Ireland, and legendary landmarks in the southern United Kingdom.

Varon also delights in her tales of traveling the famous Route 66, a treasured Americana road trip that will surely have readers packing their maps and bags.

While all appears sunny and carefree in these pages, readers also learn that Varon is a more than 10-year metastatic breast cancer survivor. She works diligently to help heighten cancer prevention and awareness and is an in-demand motivational speaker. As an advocate, she works with the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides against Breast Cancer."
