Michael Mercury named Douglas L. Johnson Endowed Chair in Neurosciences at Northwestern Medicine
Michael Mercury, Ph.D., director of Neuropsychology at Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group and co-director of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Center at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, is the recipient of the Douglas L. Johnson Endowed Chair in Neurosciences.
Mercury was presented a Northwestern Medallion by Patrick Towne, M.D., president of Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group, at an Investiture Ceremony on Aug. 23.
As part of the three-year endowed position, Mercury, who specializes in memory and the cognitive aspects of dementia and movement disorders, will help advance the future of neurosciences and help establish Northwestern Medicine as a nationally recognized Neuropsychology Center.
"I am tremendously grateful for this extraordinary opportunity," said Mercury. "With this honor, I intend to enhance direct patient care, improve clinical efficiency, and establish research that will endure beyond my tenure. Such an ambitious plan is made possible with the help of my outstanding colleagues who every day strive to live out Dr. Johnson's vision for neuroscience care."
This endowment, which was made possible through many generous donations to the Northwestern Medicine Foundation, celebrates the life and career of Douglas Johnson, M.D.
A 21-year veteran of Central DuPage Hospital, Johnson served as a true pioneer in neurosurgical services. As an influential leader in the neurosciences program, Dr. Johnson helped bring new opportunities to patients throughout the region and mentored many medical professionals as they launched and developed their own careers.

"I am thankful for the many people who have contributed to this dream. You are an inspiration to all of us."
