ECC's Emergency Services and STEM students to receive scholarships through $15,000 Motorola Foundation grant

A $15,000 grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation will allow Elgin Community College to award new scholarships to students who enroll in the college's technology, pre-engineering or emergency services programs. Students served by the grant will come from underrepresented populations, including females; underrepresented minorities; the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community; people with disabilities; and veterans.

"We are grateful to the Motorola Solutions Foundation for their confidence in the quality of the college's academic programs and potential of ECC students," said Katherine Sawyer, executive director of institutional advancement and the ECC Foundation. "Their generosity will remove financial barriers for recipients, making these student's academic endeavors much more feasible and allowing them to focus on their studies."

In addition to ECC students, grants from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions Inc., support programs across the United States that help more than two million students, teachers, first responders, and community members.

Founded in 1984, the Elgin Community College Foundation raises funds through private donations to remove financial barriers, reward academic excellence, and advance learning for ECC students to improve lives and strengthen the 21 communities of ECC District 509.

Through the generosity of donors, the ECC Foundation awards scholarship support to more than 200 student annually. Students interested in the applying for scholarships are encouraged to visit elgin.edu/scholarships to get started.
