Vernon Hills celebrates 13th annual Oktoberfest

Vernon Hills' 13th annual Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Vernon Hills Metra Station, at 75 E. U.S. Route 45.

The celebration will feature free crafts for children and free pumpkins to paint while supplies last. A free hay ride will be sponsored by the Vernon Hills Park District.

Food will be available for sale, and beer coffee, pop and water will also be served.

The Cook Memorial Library District will have the Bookmobile available on site and the Lincolnshire/Riverwoods Fire Protection District will have fire trucks on display.

The schedule of events is as follows:

• 3 p.m.: Balloon sculpting

• 3 p.m.: Caricature drawings

• 3 p.m.: Free pumpkin painting (while supplies last)

• 3-5 p.m.: Mario Tricoci School face painting

• 3 p.m.: Free kids crafts (while supplies last)

• 3-7 p.m.: Record a Hits inflatables

• 4-10 p.m.: Free hay rides sponsored by the Vernon Hills Park District

• 4:30-7:30 p.m. Bookmobile

• 5-6:30 p.m.: VHR Band

• 7:30 -9:45 p.m.: B Side Band
