U-46 to offer 'Cracking the Code to Literacy' Sept. 26

Elgin Area School District U-46 is offering the first of four educational programs for parents of students with special needs.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, administrators will deliver a 60-minute presentation to better acquaint parents with the five core tenants of literacy and how they are implemented throughout the district.

The program "Cracking the Code to Literacy in U-46" will be offered at 6:30 p.m. at South Elgin High School, Room B100, 760 E. Main St.

Families can learn about elementary curriculum, district resources, and the tools that support literacy instruction for special education students.

This is the first of four Citizens' Advisory Council programs this school year aimed at supporting and informing parents of special education students.

Parents of all school-aged children are invited to attend, and attendance is strongly encouraged for parents of special needs students.

Speakers will include Celia Banks, coordinator of Elementary Literacy; Lauren Stewart, special education private placement coordinator; and Valerie Brosius, assistant director for Curriculum and Instruction-Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

For more information, visit the Citizens' Advisory Council website at www.u46cac.org.

It is presented by the Specialized Student Services Committee of the U-46 Citizens' Advisory Council.
