The first Wauconda FBLA Meals for All of the year is a success

Submitted by Wendy Mills

Wauconda Future Business Leaders of America hosted Meals for All, a national award-winning program on Sept. 13. The program offers monthly meals for $1 for members of the Wauconda community.

Since the program began in 2012, FBLA has served more than 6,000 meals. In the inaugural meal of the year, FBLA members served 88 guests and delivered eight meals to residents unable to attend. Wauconda High School FBLA also recognized police officers by offering them a free meal and served 12 police officers.

Wauconda FBLA thanks Middleton's and Bulldog Grill for suppling the dinner and Sharp Auto Body for providing the dessert.

In addition, the members also served and conversed with former members, including Val Whitman, who was the Illinois FBLA State President in 1955.

"It was an honor to speak to Ms. Whitman and share our enthusiasm for FBLA among her friends," Chapter President and Illinois FBLA State Secretary Shawna Weber said. "This was an incredible opportunity to connect with each other and appreciate all that FBLA does in our community."

Chapter President and Illinois FBLA Northern Area President Tommy O'Brien added that "it was really cool to see the legacy that Wauconda FBLA has left over the years."

Overall, the Meals for All was a success.

"Meals for All is off to a great start this year," O'Brien said. "It was a rewarding experience to serve so many community members and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again in October."
