Local sky diver wins slot on U.S. Parachute Team

Submitted by the United States Parachute Association

Grayslake resident Brian Martin recently won gold at the U.S. Parachute Association National Parachuting Championships.

Martin's win was in a 2-way canopy formation competition at Skydive Paraclete XP in Raeford, North Carolina.

His win earns him a slot on the prestigious U.S. Parachute Team that will compete at the 2018 World Parachuting Championships in Australia.

In canopy formation sky diving, teams of two sky divers deploy their parachutes immediately after jumping from the plane and build formations as quickly as possible while holding onto each other's canopies. A videographer flies alongside to capture the action.

Martin, 34, is a software engineer and has completed 5,000 sky-dives. His team, named Slotswitch, is based at Skydive Milwaukee in East Troy, Wisconsin.
