Trinity women's soccer coach notches 300th victory

Trinity International University women's soccer coach Patrick Gilliam recently recorded his 300th win, a milestone shared by few of his professional peers.

Within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, only one other active women's soccer coach has achieved 300 career victories, and only 57 active National Collegiate Athletic Association women's coaches (Divisions I, II and III) have reached the 300-win milestone.

Victory number 300 for Gilliam came at home on Shartner Field Saturday, Sept. 9, a 4-1 decision over NCAA Division III Cornell College from Iowa.

Gilliam is in his 21st season as head coach of the women's team, and serves as head coach for the Trinity men's soccer program. His teams have made six NAIA national tournament appearances and they have won two National Christian College Athletic Association national championships, in 1998 and 2004.

In 2016, the NCCAA inducted Gilliam into its Hall of Fame. Gilliam's record, to date, is 300-132-22 (.694).

His success on the field is only one aspect of Gilliam's impact on the Trinity soccer programs.

"The investment that Patrick Gilliam has made in the life of Trinity athletics over the years is hard to calculate," Trinity President David S. Dockery said. "We genuinely thank him for his investment in the lives of students, for his faithful example of Christ-like character, and for the faithful way that he has lived out the Trinity mission in many and multiple ways."

"I want to congratulate Patrick on this milestone and thank him for everything that he has done for Trinity soccer," Trinity Athletic Director Michael Gorsline said. "His dedication, work ethic, and genuine care for his players is remarkable."
