CLC Theatre presents a zany kids' musical about the Three Little Pigs

There are two sides to every story, and when the Big, Bad Wolf takes the stand in Piggsylvania's Trial of the Century, he finally gets his say. But can a lone wolf get a fair trial in a corrupt piggy court?

Audiences attending the College of Lake County Theatre department's children's musical production of "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs," will decide the wolf's fate at productions being staged Sept. 28 through Oct. 1.

The show is appropriate for Pre-K through grade five. Daytime performances will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28 and 29. Three weekend shows will be presented at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1 in the Mainstage Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

And will anyone believe that all the "huffing and puffing" nonsense was just a cover-up for a simple story about a sneeze and a cup of sugar? Audiences will help decide the fate of Big 'n' Bad in this hysterical musical adaptation of the hit children's book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. Directed by Alicia Hall, The New York Times called it "One of the best children's shows of the year. Case closed." The book and lyrics are by Robert Kauzlaric, the music is by Paul Gilvary and William Rush, and the play is based on the book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. The show was originally produced by Lifeline Theatre of Chicago in 2007.

The cast includes Dylan Thomas of Winthrop Harbor as Alexander T. Wolf; Isabella Cernuska of Round Lake as Lillian Magill, a reporter; Abigail Giles of Fox Lake as Judge Prudence and Pig #1; Emily Finnelly of Gurnee as Julia, a lawyer, and Pig #2; Jonathon Rocha of Waukegan as Dr. Robert Shears, Maxwell and Pig #3; and Eric Ostick of Grayslake as Rocky and Martha.

"It can seem all too easy to judge someone as having done something wrong when something bad happens. We can forget that there is always more than one side to a story," said Director Alicia Hall. "Come with us to the court house of Piggsylvania as we step into the trial of the Big Bad Wolf. Did he huff? Did he puff? Did he kill those two little pigs? With humor, fantastic rockin' songs and a healthy dose of Beatles' references, the jury pig audience gets to decide the innocence or guilt of this misunderstood wolf."

The rest of the CLC Theatre season features "Street Scene," Nov. 10-18; "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Feb. 23 through March 3; "Play On! A CLC Theatre Student Showcase," April 13-21; and the summer musical, "Cabaret," July 20-29.
