Prince of Peace Catholic School Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Lake Villa, IL - September 2017 - Prince of Peace Catholic School, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school, announces that 2017 marks its 60th year of providing academic excellence to surrounding area children in grades preschool through 8th grade.

To celebrate this milestone, there will be a special anniversary mass on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. Cardinal Cupich will be the main celebrant at the mass. Alumni will be recognized and current Prince of Peace students will participate in the liturgy. Alumni, parishioners, school families and community members are invited to share in the celebration.

There will be a casual luncheon in the gymnasium of our Parish Life Center immediately following mass. Please plan to help us celebrate with faith, fun and fellowship as we look back on the past 60 years of academic excellence, and look forward to continuing our strong traditions for many more years to come.

Prince of Peace Catholic Church was built in 1956 and had humble beginnings a small, country church. One year later, in 1957, the small Catholic school opened its doors. Over the past 60 years, that small school has grown and flourished, much like its students. As the community around it grew, so did the church and the school. In 2010, the parish began its Celebrating the Harvest Campaign, which would profoundly affect the school. The purpose of this fund was to raise money to update and expand the school facility, with the goal of better fitting the consistently increasing number of students, and to continue providing them with the best faith-filled education available. By September 2012, there was enough money to start, and ground was broken on the 40,000 sq. ft. project. A year later, in September 2013, the Parish Life Center (PLC) was complete as well as a new wing on the school. Prince of Peace now has a full-size gymnasium with a stage, several new classrooms/meeting rooms, a state-of-the art computer lab, fine arts studio and school library. The PLC is used by both the school and the church, making it a true parish center.

The following year, 2014, Prince of Peace Catholic Church received a new pastor - Fr. Gerald Walsh - and also became a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School. The church and school have continued to grow and with the expanded facility, it has been able to engage the entire parish family.

As a Blue Ribbon "Exemplary High-Performing" School, Prince of Peace was one of only 50 private schools in the US to receive the award that year.
