ArtFest continues with opening receptions Friday

As part of the continuing ArtFest | St. Charles, stop by the opening reception for "Meta Series & Madame Butterfly" from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Laura Frazier Artistry, located inside the 111 W. Main St. building, which also features Steel Beam Theatre and Salon Agape.

In addition to the opening, gallery goers will see a repeat performance of "Color Field," an art collaboration curated by Laura Frazier. It will feature poetry and spoken word with Emily Thornton Calvo, Russ Devereaux, David Gecic, and Christine Swanberg, jazz with Clare Black and Company, and live painting with Emily Thornton Calvo, Laura Frazier, Jose Aleman Sasieta, and Peggy Sue Seehafer.

This art collaboration premiered at the St. Charles Art Council's Pop-Up Galleries at Pheasant Run Resort.

ArtsFest | St. Charles, presented in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, features arts programming going on all over town through Sunday, Sept. 17.

• The Fine Line's popular intimate class format is back for a second year in "Create.Friday" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Refreshments and supplies are included with the class fee of $48; basket making with Ellen Phillips will be featured for this session. Weave a garlic basket with your own hands! Learn simple techniques to create a beautiful object for your home or to give as a gift. Take your basket home with you that night.

• Featuring works in all media created by artists who reside within 50 miles of The Norris, the "Vicinity 2017" exhibit will open on Saturday, Sept. 16, and remain on display through Nov. 4 in the Norris Gallery, 1040 Dunham Road. The exhibit is an annual highlight of the gallery season.

The public is invited to attend a free reception honoring the artists of Vicinity 2017 on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. Winning entries in the exhibit will be announced, and prizes awarded to the artists. Free refreshments will be served.

• The 12th annual "Sculpture in the Park," sponsored by the St. Charles Park Foundation, runs through mid-October each year. The landscape of Mount St. Mary Park presents an engaging show against the backdrop of nature's seasonal beauty. The foundation strives to provide sculptural works with substantial breadth and depth in both subject matter and media for audiences to discuss, think about and enjoy. • The inaugural "Sculpture on the Prairie" exhibit features 11 sculptures located on the campus and prairie through Oct. 28. For details, visit www.fineline.org.
