Historian to present program on Chicago parks
Learn about the history of Chicago parks from author and historian Julia S. Bachrach during a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn.
Bachrach will share how Chicago residents have rallied for the creation and protection of green space and how the city's parks have served as testing grounds for seminal ideas and social movements.
Daniel H. Burnham, Frederick Law Olmstead, Jens Jensen, Alfred Caldwell and Lorado Taft - nationally acclaimed architects, artists and landscape architects - all have shaped Chicago's parks.
Bachrach has published books titled "The City in a Garden," "The Garfield Park Conservatory" and "Chicago's West Side."
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for Glen Ellyn Historical Society members, and $5 for students 18 and younger. For information and reservations, call (630) 469-1867 or visit gehs.org.
