Wego Drama presents 'The Complete History of America (Abridged)'

Wego Drama at West Chicago Community High Schools opens its 2017-18 season with the comedy "The Complete History of America (Abridged)," a fast-paced satirical look at the nation from its founding to the present.

The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 7 to 9, at the high school, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago. The performance is intended for high school and adult audiences, answering the question, "How did Americans get to be who we are today?"

"This production is fun! I can't stop laughing," Wego Drama club President Ricky Gieser said. "I can say this for sure: history is not boring."

Wego Drama's season is focused on the idea to "transform" by being bold, daring and who you want to be.

"The idea of transforming is really cool," actor Ken Correa said. "Rehearsals have been history lessons that break into laughter as we put the satirical spin on the last 400 years."

"I think our audiences will enjoy the wit and fun of it," Neve Ryan said. "We all play a whole range of characters, so it is a constant surprise to our audience."

Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults and are available at wegotheatre.com or at the door.

The actors and crew for the show are Ryan Castiglia, Kenneth Correa, Andres Espinoza, Ricky Gieser, Sammy Incrocci and Nora Zamora from Carol Stream; Grecia Bahena, Nathan Bradley, Abby Carr, Alexia Gountanis, Megan Kordik, Noemi Lara, Evy McLean and Jose "Rudy" Muñoz from West Chicago; and David Brown, Emily Carroso, Abbie Lundblad, Neve Ryan and Connor Thompson from Winfield.

The show is directed by Mark Begovich. Scenic design and technical direction is by Chris Jensen. Costume design is by Lauren Roark and hair and makeup design is by Jamie Elza.

"The Complete History of America (Abridged)" is written by Adam Long, Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, and is presented by arrangement with Broadway Play Publishing, New York.

Future productions include a murder mystery dinner, "We Will Rock You School Edition," and Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella Broadway Edition."
