Barrington Cultural Arts Center September Artist of the Month

The Barrington Cultural Arts Center (BCAC) is pleased to have ROBERT GARLOCK as the featured artist at the BCAC gallery at the Ice House Mall for the month of September.

Robert Garlock is a graduate of Yale University where he studied design and color with renowned Bauhaus artist and educator, Josef Albers. Garlock also attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and studied portraiture with award-winning artist Edmond J. Fitzgerald.

Garlock's subject matter, primarily landscapes in oil, reflects a personal response to places he has visited and an appreciation of varied leisure-time activities. A move to Nashville, Tennessee, produced rural scenes of the mid-south, along with marine subjects and beach scenes from Florida to the Outer Banks. Recent trips have resulted in scenes with European settings. In each painting the artist tries to capture the special atmosphere, color, and "feel" of the place depicted.

Now retired to the Chicago area, following a career in publishing, Garlock maintains contacts with galleries in Nashville, where he has had one-man shows. His work has also been exhibited in Atlanta, Georgia - Florence, Alabama, and is included in private and corporate collections from Richmond, Virginia to Palo Alto, California.
