Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit to dedicate new worship space

The service will be immediately followed by a luncheon in the Educational Wing of the building. All are welcome.

The original worship space was built in the 1960s and has served the congregation well through the years. But, times have changed and the congregation wanted to make the space newer and brighter.

The Altar area has been enlarged, with new flooring, lighting and windows. Side panels were added with clear glass allowing light to stream into the altar area. The original dark wooden panels behind the altar have been replaced with beautiful, stone-textured white bricks on both the interior and exterior walls.

The focal point is a new round stained glass window that features the colorful "Luther Rose", an early Lutheran Symbol designed by Martin Luther. Anew lectern and baptismal font were also added.

New tiles and carpeting were installed in the seating area of the church. The pews were rearranged slightly to create flexible spaces to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. More space was created in the front for accessibility.

Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the English District of the Synod. Both are advisory bodies. Holy Spirit enjoys the autonomy and freedom prescribed by the synod's constitution that allows it to be a church in this place. From its beginning Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit's policy on Holy Communion has been that a baptized Christian who accepts the true presence of Christ's body and blood in the Eucharist is a welcome guest at its altar.

The role of women in church worship has been championed and encouraged by pastors and laity alike.

Luthern Church of the Holy Spirit has several outreach ministries that are actively supported by its members including Nancy's Project, which was founded by a member of the congregation to supply aloe plants to the Cancer Center at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, to better treat burns from radiation. The plants are split and raised in one of the rooms in the education wing. This ministry has been supported by the church youth and others.
