COD Women's Volleyball Has Strong Start to 2017 Season

The College of DuPage women's volleyball team's season is off to a strong start with several wins on the road.

The Lady Chaparrals are 5-1 after their Aug. 29 home opener against Milwaukee Technical. The team faces Madison Aug. 31 on the road.

The team has performed well on the road and at a tough early-season tournament, said head Coach Tolis Koskinaris.

"We've got a very efficient team that doesn't make a lot of errors," he said. "The players know their strengths and limitations and use both to their capacity."

The Lady Chaparrals passed an early test at the Chaparral Invite, emerging 3-1 from several tough matchups, Koskinaris said. The Ridgewater Tournament, coming up in mid-September, presents more challenges in a highly-competitive grouping. Conference groupings also feature strong teams as the COD squad faces Harper (Sept. 12 and Oct. 10) and Madison (Sept. 28).

Still, Koskinaris said he's confident in his team and is pleased with what he's seen on and off the court.

"The players get along great. A positive gym environment goes a long way," he said. "The NJCAA schedule is a sustained 400M sprint. You have to come out hard and fast, but not too hard, and maintain that for the 10 weeks necessary."
