Race for open space with the first Run Wild 5K

Connect with your wild self on a run through the wide-open spaces.

Sign up your family and join friends for the first Run Wild - Race for Open Space 5K to be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hickory Grove Highlands, 500 Hickory Nut Grove Lane, Cary, co-sponsored by McHenry County Conservation Foundation.

This 5K trail race, which coincides with National Public Lands Day, journeys through woodland, prairie and riverfront habitats. Enjoy the colors of fall with stunning views of wildflowers, grasses and towering oak and hickory trees along the wooded trail. This timed event features moderate terrain to provide an exciting and challenging experience for runners of all skill levels.

Race starts at 8:30 a.m. and offers awards for overall and age group. Cost is $35; $40 on day of event; and $20 youth ages 5 to 13, accompanied by registered adult. Includes T-shirt, race bib and race day snacks.

Registration and details are online at bit.ly/RunWild5K_2017. Register by Monday, Sept. 4, to guarantee shirt size. Race day parking is at Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area, 1520 Crystal Lake Road, Cary. A free shuttle starts at 6:45 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m.

The event is seeking sponsors for cash donations. Market your business and support a great cause at the same time!

Proceeds from the race will benefit the community by providing funds to continue to preserve the open spaces of the county, and to provide enhanced recreational amenities and educational opportunities for individuals and families to connect with the natural world.
