Fox Valley Hands of Hope offers free programs, support groups

Fox Valley Hands of Hope, a community-based, nonprofit organization, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and providing hope for those experiencing grief or life-threatening illness.

These free programs are open to everyone in the community. The programs will be held at the office, 200 Whitfield Drive in Geneva (unless otherwise indicated).

Our Grief Journey: This five-week support group, co-sponsored by Fox Valley Hands of Hope and the United Methodist Church of Geneva, is open to anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one. It is a great way to understand the grief process and start the healing process. It can be utilized while waiting for a more specific grief group to be available. As with the other groups, it will offer emotional support as well as some practical tools to help cope as you grieve. Registration is required. It will be offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 30 to Sept. 27, at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.

Pathways: This seven-week group addresses issues faced by those who are grieving the death of a spouse or life partner. Emotional support is offered as well as assistance with accepting the death and coping with grief. Registration with a refundable deposit is required. It will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 6 to Oct. 18.

Life After Alzheimer's: An ongoing monthly support group is offered the second Monday of each month. This group will address topics such as navigating through grief and the loss of your role as a caregiver. It is meant to provide support once you are outside of the caregiving supportive community and seeking a new life after your loss. This is an open group however registration is required. Contact Christy Pitol at (630) 232-2233, ext. 230, for registration or information. It meets at 4 p.m. on the second Monday of each month (Sept. 11, Oct. 9).
