Chicago coalition hosts clean air golf outing, clean vehicle seminar

The Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition hosts its 17th annual Clean Air Golf Outing on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Maple Meadows Golf Club, 272 S. Addison Road in Wood Dale.

The day will kick off with a free Clean Vehicles Seminar, followed by an afternoon of golf and dinner. Highlights of the morning program include:

• An update on the $14.7 billion Volkswagen settlement, including funding grants to purchase new trucks, buses, vessels, locomotives, and other non-road equipment, and zero-emissions infrastructure;

• An overview of how to charge your plug-in electric or hybrid vehicle more quickly;

• A presentation on DC Fast Charging for plug-in vehicles.

"Our morning seminar offers a chance to learn about the latest in clean-vehicle and electric-vehicle technologies," said John Walton, chairman, Chicago Area Clean Cities. "The golf outing and the seminar also offer terrific networking opportunities. We have people join us from throughout the Chicago area who are experts at environmental and technological solutions that improve air quality, save fuel, and help fleets realize a fast return on investment."

Chicago Area Clean Cities is a voluntary coalition whose mission over the last 23 years has been to support local actions to improve the environmental performance and efficiency in the transportation sector in the six-county Chicago metro area. Its membership is comprised of federal, state and local governments, commercial fleets, auto manufacturers, dealerships, environmental organizations, corporations, small businesses, and individuals. These stakeholders come together to share information and resources, educate the public, help craft public policy, and collaborate on projects that reduce petroleum use.

In 2017, Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition member fleets displaced nearly 26.5 million gasoline-gallon equivalents of petroleum and reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 230,000 tons.
