Queen of the Rosary School students view the eclipse
On Aug. 21, under the direction of Mrs. Shirley Runge, science teacher, students and staff at Queen of the Rosary School in Elk Grove Village had an opportunity to view the solar eclipse.
After learning safety and proper viewing procedures in their classrooms, students who had parental permission assembled in front of the school to view the eclipse through their solar eclipse viewing glasses.
In addition to using their safety solar glasses for viewing, Mrs. Runge and students experimented with a colander as an alternate way to view the eclipse. The holes in the colander acted like a pinhole camera, projecting the images on the ground.
Classroom televisions and Smartboards throughout the school were streaming live coverage from the Weather Channel and NASA.
