Ecker Center receives Flesch Foundation grant

The Gordon Flesch Foundation has awarded Ecker Center for Mental Health $5,000 to benefit the agency's psychiatric emergency program.

The PEP Program operates 24 hours a day every day of the year at Advocate Sherman Hospital. Specifically, the program helps people of all ages who are experiencing psychiatric emergencies caused by mental illness or, in some cases, drug or alcohol abuse.

"We expect PEP will help about 1,500 individuals this year. Providing emergency psychiatric services for those individuals will not only help them but their families, others they interact with and the community at-large," Beyer said. "Despite lack of state funding during the budget crisis, this program has continued to function thanks in no small measure to supporters like the Gordon Flesch Foundation for we are extremely thankful."
