Chapa LaVia promotes renewable energy, job creation at town hall

State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora, partnered with the Sierra Club Valley of the Fox and other local elected officials at a town hall meeting Aug. 14 to discuss the benefits of renewable energy for both the economy and the environment.

"At a time when the severity of climate change is being overlooked by chief executives at both the state and federal levels, it is more important than ever to invest in renewable energy," Chapa LaVia said. "As the chairperson of the House Energy Committee, one of my greatest priorities is expanding the clean energy sector so that we can guarantee a habitable environment for future generations and create opportunities for economic growth."

During the town hall, Chapa LaVia and other speakers discussed some of the most detrimental effects of climate change and how utilizing clean energy can help stop potential environmental catastrophes. Topics of conversation also included job growth in the wind and solar power sectors and increasing annual revenue from sustainable businesses and green commodities. Those who attended the town hall meeting on Monday spoke about the need for sustainable jobs and the importance of having elected officials dedicated to ending climate change.
